Karnal MC demolishes illegal structures on government land
In a major anti-encroachment drive, the enforcement team of the Karnal Municipal Corporation (KMC) demolished eight illegal structures in the Budhakhera’s Daniyalpur drain area and Preetampura locality, reclaiming several kanals of government land.
Giving details, Dr Vaishali Sharma, Commissioner, KMC, said several residents had encroached upon the municipal land in both areas and carried out unauthorised constructions. The corporation had earlier issued five notices each to 22 persons, instructing them to vacate the land. Additionally, directions from the High Court had also mandated the removal of encroachments from the land.
The action was taken under Section 408-A of the Haryana Municipal Corporation Act, 1994. Despite repeated notices, the encroachers failed to vacate the premises, following which the municipal team with the help of earthmoving machines, demolished illegal houses, boundary walls, ramps, sheds, and animal enclosures.
During the demolition, some of the residents tried to obstruct the drive, but were stopped by the police.
To ensure smooth execution of the drive, Deputy Municipal Commissioner Abhay Singh was present there with Naib Tehsildar Ram Kumar, Kanungo Suresh Kumar, Patwari Ishwar Singh, along with a large police force. Vaishali Sharma reiterated the corporation’s firm stance on unauthorised construction. “No illegal occupation or construction on the municipal land will be tolerated under any circumstances,” she said, adding that monitoring teams regularly survey the city to identify and act against encroachments. She urged citizens to refrain from illegal construction activities and report any such incidents to the municipal office immediately. “We appeal to the public not to carry out unauthorised constructions. Strict action will be taken, and such demolition drives will continue in future as well,” Sharma emphasised.
