One killed, another injured in Chamba landslide
A man was killed and another injured after a landslide, triggered by heavy rainfall, struck a makeshift shelter in Jadera area of Chamba district on Wednesday night. The deceased has been identified as Tilak Raj, a resident of Kalyu village under Jadera post office in Chamba.
The police said Tilak Raj and his friend were daily wage workers residing in a temporary shed near the village. After having dinner on Wednesday evening, both went to sleep. During the night, a landslide occurred due to continuous rains, burying the structure under debris.
Local residents rushed to the spot after learning about the incident and initiated rescue operations. They also informed the police. One of the victims was rescued in an injured condition and rushed to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Government Medical College, Chamba. He is currently undergoing treatment.
The body of Tilak Raj was later recovered and sent to the Chamba Medical College, where a post-mortem examination was conducted before handing it over to the family. Chamba SP Abhishek Yadav confirmed the incident and a case has been registered.
