Delhi Speaker constitutes 11 new committees
Delhi Legislative Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta has announced the constitution of 11 new committees for the 2025-26 session. With this, the total number of Assembly committees now stands at 29, marking a major expansion of the Assembly’s institutional framework for policy review and governance oversight.
Among the newly formed panels are the Committees on Women and Child Welfare, Welfare of Students and Youth, Welfare of Minorities, Welfare of Other Backward Classes and the Committee on Issues Related to Unauthorised Colonies. These bodies are expected to focus on the welfare of marginalised and underrepresented groups while also addressing pressing civic issues faced by Delhi residents.
Gupta stressed that all political parties have been given due representation in the new panels to uphold the principles of participatory and inclusive democracy. He expressed confidence that the committees will fulfill their mandate and deliver tangible results for the citizens of Delhi.
“Committees are vital tools for legislative oversight, enabling continuous scrutiny of government functioning beyond the limited time available during Assembly sessions,” he said.
Key appointments include Poonam Sharma as the chairperson of the Committee on Women and Child Welfare, Aahir Deepak Chaudharyy for the Committee on Welfare of Students and Youth, and Tarvinder Singh Marwah heading the Committee on Welfare of Minorities. Raj Karan Khatri will lead the Committee on Welfare of Other Backward Classes, while Kuldeep Solanki will head the Committee on Issues Related to Unauthorised Colonies.
