WATCH: Shubman Gill slams Akash Deep over costly error in second Test vs England, says ‘ dekh kya raha hai’

New Delhi: India’s Test skipper Shubman Gill, was the centre of attention during the second day of the second Test against England in Birmingham, as he scored magical 269, a knock that will be remembered for ages. Shubman guided India to a total of 587 in 151 overs of their first innings.

Shubman was excellent in attacking the English bowlers and in defending the good deliveries. Gill smashed 30 fours and three sixes in his brilliant.

Akash Deep nearly made a costly mistake

Earlier on Day 2 just before Tea, Gill tried to get a quick single but Akash Deep was surprised. At the non strikers end, he was slow to react, when Ollie Pope, at mid-on raced towards his right into a dive, and threw in a sharp one to the wicketkeeper.

Pope’s throw towards the wicketkeeper was not accurate and gave Akash Deep some extra time to reach the crease. When Gill reached the non-striker’s end, gave Akash Deep a piece of his mind. “Dekh kya raha hai? Bhaag jaldi se (What are you staring at? Run quickly)” Gill screamed.

With India at 211/5 and a target of 450, this appeared too far to go. Shubman Gill, however, stepped up to the plate and achieved a splendid career high Test score, and led the side to near vicinity, at 587.

Great support from Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar

Ravindra Jadeja (89) and Washington Sundar (42) provided strong support to Gill, stitching together crucial partnerships of 203 and 144 for the sixth and seventh wickets respectively, as India’s lower order delivered in style. For England, with little assistance from the pitch, Shoaib Bashir returned with figures of 3/167, while Chris Woakes and Josh Tongue chipped in with 2/81 and 2/119 respectively.
