Janhit: From Gopal to Tajammul, Dhaba Worker’s Identity Twist Heats Up Kanwar Season | ABP NEWS

A major controversy has erupted in Muzaffarnagar after a man identified as “Gopal” was revealed to be Tajammul, a Muslim, following an Aadhaar verification. Initially, he had claimed he was Hindu and had faced an attempted assault. However, the truth surfaced when his real identity was exposed, fueling allegations of identity fraud and deepening communal mistrust. The incident quickly took a political turn with local religious leader Swami Yashveer Maharaj leading a campaign against hidden religious identities at highway dhabas. He encourages shop owners to display images of Lord Varaha and saffron flags as a mark of Hindu identity. Meanwhile, critics, including opposition parties, have accused Swami Yashveer and his supporters of moral policing and targeting Muslims. Tensions escalated after a QR code at the dhaba listed a Muslim name, despite the shop being advertised as "Pandit Ji Vaishnav Dhaba." Claims of religious profiling, forced identity checks, and physical assault have drawn national attention. While BJP faces criticism for allegedly enabling such actions, Swami Yashveer defends his conduct as part of religious duty. Former CM Akhilesh Yadav has now demanded a separate route for Kanwar Yatra pilgrims, adding another layer of complexity to the growing controversy.
