While Aamir and Karisma played the lead roles, one actress who truly stole the limelight with the song “Pardesi Pardesi Jaana Nahi” was Pratibha Sinha. Though she appeared in just that one song, it was enough for her to be nicknamed the “Pardesi Girl.” Pratibha went on to act in several other films, but her career never reached the heights of her mother, veteran actress Mala Sinha.

How was Pratibha Sinha’s film career?

Pratibha Sinha’s mother Mala Sinha was active in films, so Pratibha was inclined towards the film world since childhood. At the age of 22, Pratibha made her Bollywood debut with Sujoy Mukherjee’s film Mehboob Mere Mehboob (1992). After this, Pratibha worked in about 20 to 25 films including ‘Dil Hai Betaab’, ‘Deewana-Mastana’, ‘Tu Chor Main Sipahi’, ‘Gudgudi’, ‘Kal Ki Awaaz’, ‘Mrityuraaj’ and ‘Ek Tha Raja’. When Pratibha entered Bollywood in the 90s, she was considered a competitor of Madhuri Dixit, but her career ended in a few years.

Why did Pratibha Sinha leave acting?

Pratibha Sinha’s film career did not last long. She fell in love with famous music director, Nadeem Saifi and reportedly sacrificed her acting career.

For those who don’t know, Nadeem Saifi is one of the most famous music directors in the history of Indian cinema. His duo with Shravan Kumar Rathod is considered among the most successful duos in the Indian music industry. Derived by the name ‘Nadeem-Shravan’, they ruled the industry from the 1990s to the 2000s. Pratibha and Nadeem came closer while working together in the films, Kal Ki Awaz and Raja Hindustani.

However, Pratibha’s mother was against her relationship with Nadeem. Mala sent Pratibha to Chennai. However, even after going to Chennai, they continued their relationship and started planning to get married. As per a report in Jansatta, Pratibha boldly stated in an old interview that she wanted to marry Saifi. However, their relationship took an unusual turn when her mother and she organised a press conference in Mumbai, in which the latter accused Nadeem Saifi of kidnapping and rape.

A few years later, Nadeem Saifi opened up about the accusations of rape and kidnapping made by Pratibha. He said Mala Sinha played with him by publicly making false accusations against him. The music director added that Mala and Pratibha wanted publicity, so they tarnished his image with false allegations.
