Interest rate is also applicable on these funds

This interest rate is also applicable for General Provident Fund (Central Services), Contributory Provident Fund (India), All India Services Provident Fund, State Railway Provident Fund, General Provident Fund (Defence Services), Indian Ordnance Department Provident Fund, Indian Ordnance Factories Workmen’s Provident Fund, Indian Naval Dockyard Workmen’s Provident Fund, Defence Services Officers Provident Fund, Armed Forces Personnel Provident Fund. These funds are maintained by various government departments and are available to government employees. Government employees regularly deposit a part of their salary in these schemes.

Interest rate same as PPF

Although the GPF interest rate is the same as the Public Provident Fund (PPF) rate of 7.1%, there are some key differences. PPF is for all Indian citizens, including the self-employed. It also has a lock-in period of 15 years. In contrast, GPF is only for government employees and allows full withdrawal on retirement.

EPF is different from these two

Apart from this, Employee Provident Fund (EPF) is also a scheme run by the Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO). It is mainly for salaried employees of the private sector. Its interest rate is reviewed by EPFO ​​on an annual basis. Currently the interest rate is 8.25 percent.
