Kolkata law student rape: West Bengal cops take Manojit Mishra, key accused to South Kolkata Law College, recreate crime scene

The Kolkata police took Manojit Mishra and other main accused in the alleged gang-rape of a law student to South Kolkata Law College on Friday to reconstruct the crime scene. 

 

 

The accused were taken amid heavy security to the college premises to reconstruct the crime scene. According to reports, senior police officers took the accused to college during the early hours of Friday and spent close to five hours on the college premises, reconstructing the crime scene. 

 

Besides Mishra, law college students Pramit Mukherjee and Zaib Ahmed, and security guard Pinaki Banerjee were taken to the college premises around 4.30am on Friday, and the police spent close to five hours at the college reconstructing the crime scene.

 

"The reconstruction of the crime scene is a vital part of the investigation. We completed the task today. The four accused persons were taken to the South Calcutta Law College early this morning, and the task is done," a senior police officer told PTI. "Our findings will now be cross-checked with the allegation of the woman and verified with other evidence," the officer added.

 

The 24-year-old first-year law student was allegedly gang-raped by Manojit Mishra in the guard's room at the college for about three hours on June 25. The two senior students stood guard at the doors while the horrific crime happened, according to police. Police arrested the security guard of the college later for allegedly failing to do his duties and for not taking action against the horrific crime. According to victim's complaint, the crime took place at multiple locations inside the campus, including the guard's room.
