IRCTC changed 7 rules related to ticket booking, know the new rules here
Indian Railways: Many changes have been made by the Indian Railways to make its service easier for the passengers and to increase transparency. These changes have been implemented from July 2025. These changes include increase in the time for preparing reservation charts, ticket price based on distance, Aadhaar required for Tatkal tickets and OTP based verification etc. Let us know about the changes made by the Railways regarding tickets-
Aadhaar has become necessary for booking Tatkal tickets. From 1 July 2025, Tatkal tickets are available on booking through IRCTC website and mobile app only to those people who have got their Aadhaar verified. To book Tatkal tickets online, passengers need to link their Aadhaar number to IRCTC account and verify it.
OTP will be required for booking Tatkal tickets from counters and agents. From July 15, 2025, all Tatkal tickets booked through computerised Passenger Reservation System (PRS) counters and authorised agents of the Railways will require another verification.
From July 1, 2025, authorized agents have been banned from booking tickets at certain times. This will give priority to common passengers in booking. Agents will not be able to book tickets for AC class between 10:00 am and 10:30 am. At the same time, agents will not be able to book tickets for non-AC class between 11 am and 11:30 am.
Many major and special trains will be affected by the new fare system implemented from July 1, 2025. Now traveling by Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Duronto, Vande Bharat, Tejas, Humsafar, Amrit Bharat, Mahamana, Gatiman, Antyodaya, Jan Shatabdi, Yuva Express, AC Vistadome may become expensive. New fare will also be applicable for distances of more than 500 km in normal non-suburban service. The new fare will be decided according to different categories.
The Railway Board has said that now the reservation chart will be prepared 8 hours before the departure of the train. The chart of trains whose departure time is before 2 pm (14.00 hrs) will be prepared a day before at 9 pm (21.00 hrs). Earlier the reservation chart was prepared just four hours before the departure of the train. This gave very little time to the passengers for preparation.
Changes have been made in train fares from 1 July 2025. The fares of ordinary non-AC trains have been increased. The fare of second class has been increased by half a paisa (0.5 paisa) per km, but there are some conditions in this. There will be no increase for a journey of up to 500 km. There will be an increase of Rs 5 for a distance of 501 to 1,500 km. There has been an increase of Rs 10 for a distance of 1501 to 2,500 km. At the same time, this increase is Rs 15 for a distance of 2501 to 3,000 km.
The train fare has been increased by 0.5 paisa per km for First Class AC. For Second Class, the fare has been increased by 1 paisa per km. In Sleeper Class, the fare has been increased by 1 paisa per km. Similarly, the fare for First Class has been increased by 1 paisa per km.
There has been no change in reservation fee, superfast surcharge and other extra fees in the recent changes in railway fares. All these charges will remain the same as before. Apart from this, GST will be levied on the ticket price as per the rules already in force. The fare rounding principles will also remain the same as before.
