On Cam: Bengaluru Boy Running To Catch School Van Gets Knocked Down By Bus While Crossing Road, Critical

A schoolboy sustained critical injuries after being hit by a Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) bus while attempting to cross the road to board his school bus in Jigani near Anekal on Wednesday morning. The incident occurred when the boy, rushing across the busy main road near Jayachandra Layout, tried to catch his school bus which had stopped on the opposite side to pick up students.

Boy Critical After Bengaluru Bus Accident

The 17-year-old pre-university student from Nisarga Layout was injured while running across the road to reach his college transport, reported India Today.

As he ran across, a blue BMTC bus travelling in the opposite direction struck him. CCTV footage shows the boy colliding with the vehicle's left side and falling at a distance. The BMTC driver immediately stopped the bus and rushed to the boy.

Eyewitnesses allege that the school bus driver failed to wait or assist, even after noticing the boy attempting to cross. A parent who had just dropped off his daughter witnessed the scene, parked his two-wheeler immediately, and along with the BMTC crew, helped rush the boy to a nearby hospital. Though he was initially critical, it is said that he is currently out of danger, as reported by Times of India.

Locals expressed anger over the lack of safety infrastructure in the area, pointing out that students are often forced to dash across roads to catch school or college buses, especially in the absence of pedestrian crossings or traffic regulation.
