Former Arsenal Midfielder Thomas Partey Charged With Multiple Rape & Sexual Assault Offences

Former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has been officially charged by the Metropolitan Police Service with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, according to a statement released on Friday, July 4, 2025. The charges come after a long-running investigation and involve three different women, with incidents allegedly occurring between 2021 and 2022.

Partey, 32, whose contract with Arsenal recently expired, is now a free agent. He is expected to appear before the Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, August 5 to face the charges formally. The police stated that the investigation began in February 2022 after they received the first complaint, and they have since compiled evidence against the Ghanaian international.

A statement published on the official website of the Metropolitan Police read: “The Crown Prosecution Service has authorised the Metropolitan Police Service to charge a man after a file of evidence was submitted by detectives.”

The detailed charges are as follows:

Two counts of rape involving the first woman

Three counts of rape involving a second woman

One count of sexual assault involving a third woman

All the alleged offences are reported to have taken place over a one-year period, and the case has drawn significant public and media attention. Although Partey was first arrested in July 2022, his identity was not made public at that time. He continued to play for Arsenal, making 52 appearances during the 2024–25 season, even as investigations were ongoing.

Thomas Partey was signed by Arsenal in October 2020 from Atletico Madrid for a reported fee of €50 million, and was considered a key figure in the club’s midfield during his time in the Premier League. His recent exit from the club came as his contract ran out earlier this summer.
