Two-day special session on drug issue next week
The Aam Aadmi Party government will convene a special two-day session of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha next week over the drug issue, according to sources.
The state’s drive against the drug menace and the arrest of Akali leader Bikram Singh Majithia will be among issues to be discussed during the session likely to be held on July 10 and 11. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has convened a meeting of the Punjab Council of Ministers on Monday morning.
Though the final decision on the dates of the session will be taken in the Cabinet meeting, sources in the government say that the session is likely to be held next week on July 10-11.
Since the previous session of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha, held on May 5 this year, has not been prorogued, the government does not need any permission from the Punjab Governor to convene the session.
A source said the session would be convened to give all political parties a chance to explain their position on the drug issue and send across ruling AAP’s message over the issue, especially after Majithia’s arrest on June 25.
