Hisar university gears up for new academic session
Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology (GJUST), Hisar, is set to start the new academic session with additional courses, and an emphasis on employment-oriented education, according to Vice-Chancellor Narsi Ram Bishnoi.
The Vice-Chancellor said the university had revamped its curriculum to align with the evolving demands of students
and industry.
The Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE) has commenced the admission process for various programmes. Bishnoi said CDOE’s income rose from Rs 9.04 crore in 2023-24 to Rs 10.73 crore in 2024-25.
The number of study centres had increased to 15 across the state, with more in the pipeline, ensuring wider reach and accessibility, he added.
Bishnoi said international students had shown keen interest in courses at the university, with 96 Afghan students having taken admissions in the last two years under the Ministry of External Affairs’ e-Vidya Bharti and e-Arogya Bharti (E-VBAB) initiatives.
He said applications from countries such as Ethiopia, Nepal, and Sri Lanka had also increased, with around 100 foreign applications received this year.
The VC said, in four years, the number of open and distance learning (ODL) programmes rose from nine to 11, online programmes from two to eight, and diploma programmes from zero to 14, short-term HKCL certificate courses from 17 to 32, marketing partnerships from zero to 15, and MoUs from two to four. Bishnoi said the university had received a record 13,000 applications for its 95 regular courses.
Admissions had also begun for integrated BA-Bed and BSc-BEd programmes, with the first counselling set for July 18. The university would also begin admissions for paramedical courses this year, he added.
He said the university had reached 55,000 Scopus-indexed publications with 135,000 citations and an H-index of 134 — the highest in the state.
Over 20 patents had been published, and international placements had taken place for the first time, reflecting the university’s growing global presence, he said.
