Rohtak university launches paid research internship programme

In a first-of-its-kind move to promote a research-based learning, Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU) will invite research proposals from undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as recent PhD graduates and alumni. This will be done through the Chaudhary Ranbir Singh Institute of Social & Economic Change (CRSIS & EC), a premier research institute of the university.

A decision to this effect was taken at the governing body meeting of CRSIS&EC held at Swaraj Sadan on the university campus on Friday. The meeting was chaired by Vice-Chancellor Prof Rajbir Singh and attended by several eminent scholars and members of the academic fraternity.

“The university will also offer paid research internships focused on social issues. The internship will give students a chance to work on field-based projects that are useful to local communities. The programme is in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and aims to support hands-on learning, critical thinking, and research that can help guide public policies. The goal is to involve young people in solving real-world problems and helping with development planning based on actual data,” said Prof Rajbir.

He maintained that the governing body reviewed key initiatives and charted the agenda for the 2025–26 financial year, focusing on academic research, social outreach, and policy recommendations aimed at promoting sustainable development in Haryana and the northern region.

Emphasis was laid on collaborative research, data-driven policy studies, and capacity-building programs, the VC added.

Prof Rajbir appreciated the institute’s ongoing efforts in contributing to the discourse on socio-economic development and emphasised the need for impactful, policy-oriented research. The members reaffirmed their commitment to strengthen the Institute’s role as a think-tank for evidence-based planning and inclusive growth.

The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks and a collective resolve to transform CRISIS and EC into a centre of national relevance in social and economic research.
