Special drive to curb crime in Kurukshetra

The Kurukshetra police conducted a special drive on Thursday to curb criminal activities in the district. During the drive, 122 challans were issued to those driving vehicles without number plate, 80 challans issued for without pattern/ high security registration plate, 49 for triple riding, 16 for causing noise pollution with Bullet motorcycle, 12 for using black films and six challans were issued for drunken driving.

Kurukshetra police spokesman Naresh Kumar said special drives were being conducted in the district to prevent criminal activities. One such drive was held on Thursday with the objective of keeping an eye on suspicious persons, to ensure compliance of traffic rules and curbing illegal consumption and serving of liquor at public places.

Superintendent of Police Nitish Agarwal has ordered all SHOs to check suspicious vehicles, especially those without number plates or motorists with their faces covered and those using black films. It is often seen that criminal elements use vehicles without number plates.

During the special drive, a bike stolen from Chandigarh was recovered at Pipli Chowk and a case was registered at Thanesar Sadar police station. A similar drive was conducted a few days ago as well and a stolen bike was recovered from the Shahabad area. More such drives will be conducted in coming days, the SP added.

As per the police, seven people were arrested in five cases of consuming and serving liquor at public places.

The police spokesman said many times complaints regarding people consuming liquor and creating nuisance at public places are received. Sometimes due to excessive intoxication, they get involved in disputes and commit crimes. The Superintendent of Police instructed all SHOs to keep a watch on people consuming and serving liquor at public places and at hotels, dhabas and kiosks on roadsides.

During the checking, two cases were registered and four persons were arrested under the jurisdiction of Sadar Pehowa police station, while one case was registered and a person was arrested under the jurisdiction of Thanesar City police station. Similarly one case each was registered and one accused each arrested in the areas of Ladwa and Shahabad police stations, respectively.
