Man held for sheep theft
The Chowari police in Chamba district have arrested a man and recovered 20 stolen sheep that were being transported in a pickup jeep. The arrest was made near Kali Ghar following a swift police operation based on a tip-off.
The complaint was lodged by Ghafoor Hussain, a resident of the Jot village, who reported that 20 of his sheep had gone missing from his enclosure during the night while he was away. According to the complaint, it was his wife who first noticed the sheep missing when she found the enclosure door open in the morning. She immediately informed Ghafoor over the phone, who then reported the matter to the Chowari police station as well as to his nephew, Karm Deen.
Karm alerted the police that a pickup vehicle, suspected to be involved in the theft, was seen heading towards Lahru from Chowari. Acting swiftly on this input, the Chowari police intercepted the vehicle near Kali Ghar. Upon inspection, the vehicle was found to be carrying 20 sheep.
Ghafoor Hussain was called to the spot for identification and he confirmed the sheep were his. Based on this, the police arrested the driver of the vehicle, Gulzar Mohammad, a resident of Jawali in Kangra district.
A case has been registered against the accused under Sections 305 and 331(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), said Chowari DSP Yograj Chandel.
