Masterstroke by Modi govt as India, Greece, Cyprus, Armenia may form a…, bad news for Pakistan, Turkey, Azerbaijan due to…
Pakistan is teaming up with its friends Turkey and Azerbaijan to work against India. We saw clear signs of this in May during “Operation Sindoor.” After terrorists hit Pahalgam and India struck back at camps inside Pakistan, Turkey and Azerbaijan openly backed Pakistan. Turkey even sent military help.
India has decided to answer this partnership by creating a new group in West Asia, like a mini‑“Quad.” The four members are India, Greece, Cyprus and Armenia. Each of these three countries has its own disputes with Turkey or Azerbaijan, so they share India’s worries.
India’s ties with Armenia have grown stronger
When fighting broke out recently between Israel and Iran, India asked Armenia to help rescue Indians who were trapped. About 110 Indians crossed the Nurduz‑Agarak border into Armenia and then flew home on a special plane. This rescue showed how close India and Armenia have become and how the new four‑nation group could raise more pressure on Pakistan, Turkey and Azerbaijan.
Cyprus also supports India
A few days ago, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited West Asia and Eastern Europe. During this trip, he also went to Cyprus. While there, he visited a location from where one can see Northern Cyprus, a region under Turkish control. This move was seen as a strong and clear message to Turkey.
India has openly supported Cyprus’s sovereignty and territorial unity. The two countries have also announced a strategic partnership to strengthen ties further.
In the near future, Cyprus may buy a large number of weapons from India. This could include advanced weapons like the BrahMos missile. This growing defence and diplomatic bond is another sign of India’s plan to counter the group of Pakistan, Turkey, and Azerbaijan.
India and Greece: An old friendship
India and Greece have shared a friendly relationship for a long time. This bond became even stronger in 2023 when Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Athens in August. During the visit, the two countries signed a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership agreement and agreed to deepen their military ties.
PM Modi even called Greece the “gateway to Europe” for India. Both countries also have common concerns especially regarding Pakistan and Turkey which brings them even closer.
Today, the defence partnership between India and Greece is growing stronger. Indian Navy warships now make stopovers in Greece during their visits to the Mediterranean Sea.
