Breaking News: Massive Fire at Vishal Mega Mart in Delhi’s Karol Bagh Rages for Over 14 Hours | ABP NEWS
A massive fire broke out at the popular Vishal Mega Mart in Delhi’s Karol Bagh area, and more than 14 hours later, the blaze has still not been fully brought under control. The fire reportedly started around 6:30 PM yesterday evening on the first floor of the four-storey building and rapidly spread to other levels, including the basement and second floor. According to officials, the fire was particularly intense on the third floor, where large quantities of oil and ghee were stored. This has made firefighting operations especially difficult. Eighteen fire tenders and nearly ten water tankers have been deployed to the site, with firefighters working tirelessly through the night to control the flames. Cooling operations are currently underway on the upper floors, but thick smoke and heat are making the job extremely challenging. Eyewitnesses and nearby shopkeepers reported that the entire store was evacuated in a hurry once the fire broke out. Unfortunately, one person reportedly died due to suffocation inside a lift during the incident. The store's goods have suffered heavy damage, and surrounding shops were temporarily shut down to prevent the fire from spreading. Many shopkeepers remained at the site overnight out of concern for their own establishments. Authorities suspect that a short circuit in the basement may have triggered the blaze, though a formal investigation is still pending. The incident raises serious questions about fire safety compliance in commercial buildings.
