Janhit: Uddhav and Raj Thackeray Come Together After 20 Years Over Marathi-Hindi Issue | ABP NEWS
In a big political twist, Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray—who were not on good terms for 20 years—are now coming together. Their reason? To support the Marathi language and fight what they call “Hindi domination” in Maharashtra. Recently, in areas like Mumbai and Thane, some people were attacked just because they didn’t speak Marathi. A shopkeeper was slapped and forced to apologize on camera. A woman was also mistreated for not speaking Marathi. These shocking events are being linked to political games by parties trying to win votes. Raj Thackeray’s party MNS and Uddhav’s Shiv Sena (UBT) have both taken strong stands against Hindi. Even though Raj's party performed poorly in elections (only 1.55% votes in 2024), both brothers are now using the “Marathi pride” card to stay relevant in upcoming elections, especially the BMC (Mumbai civic body) polls. On the other hand, BJP and Eknath Shinde’s group are talking about a larger Hindu identity. BJP leader Nitesh Rane asked why only Hindi-speaking Muslims are being targeted. He accused the Thackeray brothers of spreading hate in the name of language. Union Minister Amit Shah also added fuel to the fire by saying “Jai Gujarat” during a speech in Pune. This created more debate, as Uddhav and Sharad Pawar had also used similar words earlier. People are now talking again about the old Maharashtra-Gujarat language divide. Critics say all of this is being done for politics—using language and religion to create fights before elections. As the Thackeray brothers join hands, the big question is: are they really protecting Marathi, or just trying to save their political careers?
