Connectivity & progress: Minister assures road development in Tashigang
Jagat Singh Negi, Minister for Revenue, Horticulture, Tribal Development, and Redressal of Public Grievances, visited the remote village of Tashigang in the border panchayat of Namgia in Kinnaur district and assured residents that the road to the village would soon be metalled. He said construction work would begin shortly, bringing much-needed connectivity to the region.
Addressing the local gathering, the minister reiterated the commitment of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu to the inclusive development of Himachal Pradesh, particularly the uplift of poor and marginalised communities. He emphasised that opening the state’s border areas to tourism is a visionary step that will help boost the local economy and create new livelihood opportunities.
Negi highlighted the state government’s initiatives under the Forest Rights Act, 2006, which have enabled land ownership for marginalised communities. He urged residents to actively participate in gram sabha meetings and present their claims to avail the benefits of the Act and gain legal ownership of land.
Reaffirming the government’s focus on tribal welfare, he said the state is committed to improving education in tribal regions. “English-medium instruction has been introduced from Class I in government schools, teachers are being provided modern training and schools are being equipped with updated facilities,” he noted. He also outlined several healthcare initiatives aimed at delivering quality medical services to residents in remote areas.
During his visit, the minister patiently listened to the grievances of local villagers and directed officials to address all genuine demands in a timely and phased manner.
In a significant announcement, Negi declared that a sports ground would be developed in the village to encourage youth participation in physical activities. “The youth of this region have immense potential. Providing them with proper sports infrastructure will help them stay fit and represent the district and the state at national and international levels,” he said.
