Painting, repairs sanctioned for Ashiana flats in Panchkula
A major facelift is on the cards for 2,072 Ashiana flats in Panchkula, with the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) finally awarding tenders for painting and plastering works after years of neglect. Panchkula Mayor Kulbhushan Goyal inspected the proposed project plans today and directed officials to ensure the use of high-quality materials to guarantee lasting results.
Mayor Goyal instructed that the external balconies and walls of the flats should be given a fresh and attractive finish so that their improved appearance is visible even from a distance. He emphasised that the aim is to restore the visual appeal of these residential complexes.
HUDA has sanctioned the renovation through two tenders. The first covers 960 flats in Sector 20 and 256 flats at Abheypur village, with a budget of Rs 1.88 crore. The second tender includes 224 flats in Pocket A and 312 in Pocket B of Sector 26, along with 320 flats in Sector 28, with work allocated at nearly Rs 1.9 crore. In total, work worth approximately Rs 3.65 crore has now been approved.
Mayor Goyal has been consistently pushing for improvements to the Ashiana flats, following repeated appeals from residents over the years. He raised the issue in multiple Municipal Corporation meetings, where a formal proposal to improve the condition of these flats was passed and subsequently submitted to HUDA for implementation.
In addition to the external renovations, the Municipal Corporation will also undertake road resurfacing within the Ashiana complexes, along with the cleaning of lanes, footpath repairs and park beautification. Mayor Goyal revealed that four separate tenders were being issued for these internal development works, with instructions for immediate allocation.
Residents have welcomed the initiative and expressed gratitude to the Mayor, urging that the renovation be completed before Diwali to ensure the flats shine during the festive season.
The event was attended by BJP district president Ajay Mittal, executive engineer NK Payal, mandal president Siddharth Rana, councillors Sandeep Sohi, Jai Kaushik, Suresh Verma, general secretaries Anand and Pushpa Singroha, senior party worker Jasveer Goyat and others.
