Breaking News: Supreme Court Asks Centre to Evict Retired Judge from Official Bungalow | ABP NEWS
The Supreme Court administration has written to the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, requesting the immediate eviction of retired judge Justice Dhananjaya Y. Chandrachud from his official government bungalow. Despite retiring eight months ago, he has not vacated the residence. Justice Chandrachud was granted an extension to stay until May 31; however, as of July 6, the bungalow remains occupied. The letter emphasizes that there is no justification for continued stay beyond the permitted time, especially after such a long duration. Current Chief Justice B.R. Gavai chose to reside in a different house, which removed the immediate necessity for vacating the bungalow. However, the court administration has clarified that the prolonged occupation is now unjustified and should be addressed immediately.
