Trade unions give call for nationwide strike on July 9

Various trade unions and worker organisations, including CITU, ATC, INTUC, HMS and CTU (Punjab), have joined hands to stage a nationwide strike on July 9. The strike aims to press for various demands, including better wages, improved working conditions and repeal of certain laws, said trade union leader Jagtar Singh Karampura.

Karampura said that the trade unions are demanding that the Central government cancel the four codes made by breaking 44 laws and scrap the contract system. Factory workers are demanding minimum wages of Rs 26,000, while agricultural workers are demanding a place to live and a grant for building a house on a 10-marla plot.

Electricity workers are demanding the repeal of the Amendment Act, which they believe will harm the interests of government employees. The strike is expected to be a success, with various institutions and workers participating in it.
