Post Office: Now you will be able to make UPI payment in post office also, facility will be available from this day

You will be able to make digital payments in all post offices in India from August 2025. The Postal Department is upgrading its IT system to support QR code based payments.

UPI Payments to Be Available at Post Office Counters Across India from August 2025: The way of paying money in the post office is going to change completely soon. Now the facility of digital payment will be available over the counter in all post offices across the country. The Department of Posts has announced that from August 2025, all post offices will accept digital transactions. This will be possible through the new version of their IT system IT 2.0, which will enable digital payments through dynamic QR codes linked to UPI (Unified Payments Interface). The department has also said that help will also be provided at the counter to customers adopting digital payments.

Till now the post offices of the country were not able to accept UPI based digital payments, as their IT system was not linked to UPI. But now a new application is being launched under the IT 2.0 upgrade, which will generate a unique dynamic QR code for every transaction. This will make it easier and safer for customers to pay for postal services.

Facility will be available from these days

The pilot project of this new system has been started in Karnataka Circle. Booking of mail products through QR code has been done successfully in many small post offices including the headquarters of Mysore and Bagalkot. According to officials, this new system will be implemented in a phased manner in post offices across the country and all post offices will be equipped with it by August 2025.

Earlier also the Postal Department had installed static QR codes on the counters for digital payment (UPI Transaction), but this facility was discontinued due to technical problems and customer complaints. Now learning from the same experience, the department has moved towards dynamic QR code, which creates new codes for every transaction and makes the payment safe and reliable.

With this step, lakhs of rural and semi-urban customers who avail services at post offices on a daily basis will now be able to make payments through digital means instead of cash. This initiative is considered a big step towards accelerating Digital India and cashless economy.
