DCP conducts surprise night inspection, 45 challans issued for drunken driving

In a strong move to enhance public safety and curb night-time violations, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Shrishti Gupta carried out a surprise late-night inspection of clubs, liquor shops and special security checkpoints across the city. The inspection, held between 12am and 2.30am, aimed to evaluate real-time law enforcement and ensure nightclubs remain spaces for safe socialising rather than becoming breeding grounds for hooliganism.

Beginning her visit with club zones in Sectors 5 and 9, the DCP checked noise levels, compliance with operating hours and the presence and alertness of club staff. She reiterated that strict action would be taken against any establishment violating time limits, noise regulations or public order.

“Nightclubs must remain safe spaces for partying, not new hubs of hooliganism,” asserted DCP Gupta, sending a clear message to venue managers.

A major focus of the inspection was also on liquor shops operating beyond permitted hours. DCP Gupta personally inspected outlets alleged to be selling alcohol clandestinely through small windows after closing time. She issued a stern warning that such practices would be met with strict penalties and asked enforcement teams to maintain heightened surveillance on such outlets.

As part of intensified night patrolling, the DCP also visited special drink-and-drive checkpoints set up across the city. Her interaction with on-ground teams revealed a record 45 challans issued in a single night, with one vehicle impounded for driving under the influence. She instructed all personnel to enforce a zero-tolerance policy and remain highly alert through the night hours.
