Capt Vikram Batra’s kin honoured on his martyrdom anniversary

On the occasion of the 26th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas, the Army paid tribute to Captain Vikram Batra, who had been posthumously decorated with the highest award for gallantry, the Param Vir Chakra.

It was on this day in 1999 that Capt Vikram Batra of 13 Jammu and Kashmir Rifles had made the supreme sacrifice while evicting Pakistani intruders who had transgressed across the Line of Control (LoC) in the Kargil Sector.

At a ceremony held at the DAV College, of which Capt Barta was an alumnus, his father, Girdhari Lal Batra said that Vikram’s sacrifice and bravery will always be remembered, and his legacy will continue to inspire future generations. His rallying cry “Yeh Dil Maange More” still resonates in every Indian heart today, serving as a reminder of his unwavering commitment to the nation.

NCC Group Commander, Chandigarh, Brig VS Chauhan, exhorted cadets to draw inspiration from Captain Batra’s courageous life. Mona Narang, Principal, DAV College, expressed pride that Captain Batra was an alumnus of the institution. A documentary on Capt Batras’ life was also screened.

Captain Batra’s father and twin brother, Vishal Batra, were presented with a memento and a letter of gratitude from the Army. The event was part of a special outreach campaign to connect with the families of martyrs and assure them that their sacrifices will never be forgotten.
