Governor slams illicit tree felling

Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla has slammed the people involved in illicit tree felling it the state, saying that they should spare the forests if they have even a trace of humanity left in them.

The Governor was referring to thousands of trees and logs floating in the water at Pando Dam following several cloudbursts in Mandi district a few days back. The sighting of so many trees and logs floating in the water had given rise to the suspicion of large-scale illicit tree felling in the forests. “The Himalayan region is known for its dense forest. People should at least spare the trees,” he said.

Hinting that the illicit tree felling was happening at a large scale, the Governor recalled his visit to Dodra Kwar where he saw huge trees cut down. “I was shocked to see such big trees cut down. And if someone still says that everything is alright, then he should be ashamed of himself,” he said.

The Governor further said that all those people involved in this activity “are cheating their families”, and they should be ashamed of themselves.
