No trace of 28 missing persons in Mandi district

Even after a week of relentless search operations, no clue has been found of 28 missing persons, who were swept away in the devastating flashfloods and cloudburst incidents in Mandi district on the night of June 30. The missing persons belong to the worst affected Seraj, Gohar and Karsog subdivisions.

So far, 14 bodies have been recovered while rescue teams continue to scour the disaster-hit areas for the remaining 28 individuals. The cloudbursts caused widespread destruction, damaging houses, cowsheds, and farmland and claiming several human and livestock lives.

Multiple agencies, namely the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), volunteers, local police, Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and Indian Army personnel are deployed for the ongoing rescue and relief efforts.

Drones have been deployed for aerial surveys and sniffer dog squads are being used in Karsog to trace the missing persons but no breakthrough has been made in the past three days. The authorities concerned remain on high alert as the monsoon continues to pose challenges in the rescue operations.
