Shrine Board Judokas to represent India at Int’l competitions

REASI, July 7: In a proud moment for the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Sports Complex, three of its judokas—Varun Sharma, Rajat Singh Chib, and Akshay Sharma—have been selected to represent India in upcoming prestigious international judo tournaments governed by the International Judo Federation.
Varun Sharma will participate in the 81 kg category at the World University Games to be held in Berlin, Germany, from July 16–27, 2025. Meanwhile, Rajat Singh Chib (90 kg) and Akshay Sharma (73 kg) will represent India in the Senior and Junior Asia Cup Judo competitions scheduled in Taiwan from July 12–17, 2025.
To support their international journey, Anshul Garg, Chief Executive Officer of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB), presented internationally approved judo kits to the athletes during a ceremony held at the Shrine Board’s Central Office in Katra. Present on the occasion were Satish Sharma, Joint CEO; Dhruv Gupta, Director (Sports) and Danish Sharma, Judo Coach.
CEO Garg conveyed his best wishes to the athletes on behalf of the Chairman, SMVDSB (Lt. Governor, JKUT) and expressed confidence in their abilities to perform at the highest level.
The SMVD Sports Complex has been instrumental in nurturing young talent, offering modern facilities and expert training under Coach Danish Sharma. Currently, the complex is home to over 150 budding athletes across various disciplines, many of whom are making their mark at both national and international levels.
