Pune: Cop Hangs Himself In Swargate; 4th Case Of Suicide In Last 6 Months

In yet another suicide of a cop in Pune, a 29-year-old police constable killed himself by hanging from a towel in Swargate police colony on Monday afternoon.

The deceased has been identified as Swaroop Vishnu Jadhav (age 29, resident of Swargate Police Colony).

The exact reason behind the suicide could not be clarified yet.

The incident came to light around 2:30 pm on Monday.

Regarding the matter, an accidental death case has been filed at Khadak police station.

According to the information given by the police, police constable Swaroop Jadhav joined the Pune Police Force in 2023. "He was currently posted at the police headquarters. Jadhav was originally from Kolhapur. He was living with two friends in a room in Swargate Police Colony. Around 2:30 pm on Monday, a burning smell came from his room. After that, neighbors peeked into the room, where they found that Jadhav had killed himself by suicide by hanging himself with a towel," the official added.

Anuja Deshmane, assistant commissioner of police Paras Faraskhana division, speaking to Free Press Journal, said, "Police inspected the scene. No suicide note has been found at the incident spot. Police are investigating the matter soon and will reach a conclusion; however, so far, no exact reason behind the suicide has come to light."

4th Case Of Suicide In Last 6 Months

This is the fourth suicide case of a cop in the last six months in Pune, and it has raised eyebrows.

On June 6, 2025, a police constable named Sachin Harishchandra Surve (46) killed himself by hanging at his residence. Surve was posted in Khadak Police Station and resided at the Shivajinagar police colony with his wife and daughter. Surve was alone when he took this tragic step. An accidental death case was registered at Shivajinagar police station. The reason behind Surve's suicide is still unclear, and the police are investigating the matter.

In February 2025, police Naik Nana Handal (40) was found dead at his residence in Shivajinagar police quarters. Handal was deployed at Bundgarden police station. He was suspected to have hanged himself.

In February, Pune cop Anna Gunjal died by suicide near Tiger Point in Lonavala. Anna Gunjal, who worked as a Police Sub-Inspector in Khadaki Police, tragically ended his life by suicide near Tiger Point in Lonavala. Gunjal had been absent from work for three days and was unresponsive to calls. He was later found hanged in Lonavala.
