Chennai Braces For Light To Moderate Showers; IMD Forecasts Rainfall In TN Till July 14

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast partly cloudy skies with chances of light to moderate rainfall for Chennai and surrounding districts over the coming days. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are likely in isolated pockets, offering some respite from the prevailing heat.

The city’s maximum temperature is expected to hover around 38–39°C, while the minimum is likely to remain between 29–30°C. Though rainfall occurred at isolated places across Tamil Nadu, dry weather prevailed over Puducherry and Karaikal regions.

A weather blogger, who runs Chennai Rains (COMK) page on X, said, "Some weak #Thunderstorms passed through the city areas of #Chennai earlier. A moderate storm seen now west of Chennai which could possibly give some more #Rains to a few areas as potentially it could interact with the sea breeze front south of the city areas."

Tamil Nadu Weather Update

According to IMD data, there has been no significant change in maximum temperatures over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal during the past 24 hours. However, some parts of Tamil Nadu recorded temperatures 2–4°C above normal, while most other areas experienced temperatures close to seasonal averages.

Among the notable readings, Madurai Airport registered the highest maximum temperature at 39.4°C, whereas Karur Paramathi recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 22.0°C among the plains.

Looking ahead, the IMD predicts light to moderate rainfall at isolated places across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal regions till July 14. Weather watchers advise caution during thunderstorms and urge residents to stay updated on local forecasts.

The incoming showers are expected to provide some relief from the ongoing heatwave-like conditions in interior districts, though they may remain scattered and not uniformly widespread.
