Leaders and workers from across the state reached the venue to show support and offer voluntary arrests.
The protest saw heavy police presence. Vehicles of several senior Congress leaders, including Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar, were stopped and checked multiple times. Former Chief Minister Digvijaya Singh claimed that police from eight districts were deployed to stop the Congress convoy.
Jitu Patwari arrived at the protest site on a tractor and addressed the crowd, saying, “Wherever the sweat of a worker falls, leaders will shed their blood if needed.”
There were tense moments during the protest when police checked the car of Tarana MLA Mahesh Parmar, who reacted angrily, saying, “You’re even checking MLAs’ vehicles? Shoot me and wear a BJP badge.” Jaura MLA Pankaj Upadhyay and Pohri MLA Kailash Kushwah were also stopped by police. Kushwah told a woman SI, “Madam, our government will also come one day.”
At the end of the event, SDOP Vivek Sharma announced the arrest of Jitu Patwari and all those present at the protest. However, they were released shortly after by Ashoknagar SDM Brij Bihari Lal Shrivastava.
The FIR against Jitu Patwari was registered after Gajraj Lodhi, a resident of Ashoknagar, accused BJP workers of beating him and forcing him to eat human waste. On June 25, Gajraj met Patwari during his Orchha visit and shared his complaint. Later, Gajraj alleged that Patwari had misled him into filing a complaint against BJP workers. Following this, Mungaoli police registered an FIR against Jitu Patwari, which led to Tuesday’s state-wide protest.
