As per the Mayo Clinic, once a person begins showing signs and symptoms of rabies, the disease nearly always causes death. For this reason, anyone who is at risk of contracting rabies needs to receive rabies vaccinations for protection.
After a canine attack, immediately clean the wound and take steps to control the bleeding. It is important to disinfect the wound to avoid contamination.
