Kangra sets new benchmark for clean, patient-centric healthcare

In a remarkable achievement for public health, Kangra district has emerged as a frontrunner in the Kayakalp scheme for the financial year 2024-25. An impressive 131 health facilities from the district qualified under the initiative, reflecting a district-wide transformation in healthcare delivery, hygiene and community engagement.

Leading the achievements, Palampur Civil Hospital secured the top position in Category 1, earning a Rs 35 lakh award for its exceptional performance. Zonal Hospital Dharamsala was also commended for its high standards and service, while Kangra Civil Hospital, which participated in the scheme for the first time, made a strong and promising entry.

In Category 2, Bir Community Health Centre (CHC) received a commendation award of Rs 1 lakh, acknowledging its sustained commitment to quality and patient care. Dharoon Primary Health Centre (PHC), under Nagrota Surian block, topped Category 3, winning Rs 2 lakh for its consistent efforts.

Special recognition was also given to Ayushman Arogya Mandirs at Kotpalhari, Dhandol and Vadhuhi, which were honoured for maintaining high standards of cleanliness and infection control and for their patient-friendly approach.

This success has been made possible through the combined efforts of medical officers, paramedical staff, health administrators and the community. The improvements in waste management, sanitation, infection control and public participation have helped establish Kangra as a model district in health infrastructure and service delivery.

Chief Medical Officer Dr Rajesh Guleri said this milestone is not just an achievement, but a stepping stone towards building a more resilient and patient-focused healthcare system.
