Nurpur Major honoured for exemplary service in Bhutan

Major Sandeep Singh Reyal from Ward No. 3 in Nurpur town has brought great pride to the region by earning the prestigious COAS Commendation Card, awarded by Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi during his foreign assignment in Bhutan.

Major Reyal served as a specialist dental officer in Bhutan for two years, where he provided medical care to several high-profile individuals including members of the Royal family, cabinet ministers, foreign diplomats and local citizens. His professional excellence and compassionate service not only strengthened Indo-Bhutan ties but also showcased the high standards of the Indian Army. His work earned deep appreciation from the Royal Bhutan Army, local forces, and civilians alike.

He was selected for this foreign diplomatic mission after a rigorous process at Army Headquarters in Delhi in March 2023. He officially joined the Indian Military Training Team (IMTRAT) in Thimphu, Bhutan’s capital, in July 2023. IMTRAT, established in 1961-62, is India’s oldest training mission abroad and is responsible for training the Royal Bhutan Army and Royal Bodyguard personnel.

Major Reyal holds a postgraduate degree in Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics from Government Dental College, Shimla. He was commissioned into the Indian Army Dental Corps in December 2016 after securing an All India Rank of 22 in the SSC examination. During his service, he has been posted in challenging locations including Leh, Siachen, New Delhi, Lucknow and Sukna (West Bengal).

After the successful completion of his foreign assignment, Major Reyal is expected to return to India next month. His outstanding dedication, skill and commitment continue to serve as an inspiration to many in the region and the armed forces.
