Society needs to fight decisive battle against drugs: Kataria

The Chandigarh Commission for Protection of Child Rights (CCPCR) today organised a special public awareness programme on “Drugs and Substance Abuse” to highlight the ill-effects of drug abuse, at Tagore Theatre.

Punjab Governor and UT Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria, who was the chief guest on the occasion, said spreading awareness on this topic was the biggest social need today.

He said the fight against drug addiction was not just of the Administration but of the entire society.

Unless families, schools, institutions and citizens make united efforts, it will not be possible to eradicate this threat from its roots, Kataria added.

The UT Administrator said the youth who have come out of the clutches of drug addiction should be accepted by society and efforts should be made to bring them back to the mainstream with respect.

Kataria also administered the oath of de-addiction to all attendees.

A public awareness booklet titled ‘Surakshit Bachpan, Ujjwal Bhavishya – Towards a Drug-Free Society’ was also released.
