Cabinet clears Rs 53 cr district project funds

Delivering on a key budget promise, the Delhi Government has approved two major schemes — the Integrated District Project Fund and District Project Fund — to fast-track small but critical development projects across the city’s 11 administrative districts.

The decision was cleared during a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, who described the initiative as part of her administration’s “perform, reform and transform” mantra for good governance.

“Our goal is to decentralise the system so that local development projects are implemented swiftly,” the Chief Minister said.

A total provision of Rs 53 crore has been made for the schemes. Of this, Rs 20 crore is for the Integrated District Project Fund and Rs 33 crore for the District Project Fund. Each district will get around Rs 3 crore so that necessary development work can be completed on time without any hindrance.

Officials said the funds would cover a range of local works — from minor road repairs and school maintenance to street lights, CCTV installation, community centre upgrades and flood control measures.

The scheme will be overseen by a Project Approval Committee led by the District Magistrate, ensuring transparency and efficient execution. Departments like the PWD, MCD and Irrigation will implement the projects on the ground.
