Bharat bandh on 9th July News Updates: About 10 trade unions and farmers’ unions across the country have collectively announced a nationwide strike ‘Bharat Bandh’ on Wednesday (July 9). More than 25 crore employees from various sectors are participating in today’s strike. Employees working in public service sectors such as banking, insurance, postal and construction sectors are also going to go on a nationwide strike. Many services of the country may be disrupted due to this strike of employees. A platform of 10 central trade unions and their allies has announced the strike.
The protesters are protesting against changes in labor laws, increasing privatization and deteriorating economic conditions in rural areas. Several media reports have said that the unions calling for the strike are protesting against the government’s pro-corporate policies, recent labor law reforms and privatization of public sector institutions. The main demand of the workers is that the government should take immediate steps to eliminate unemployment.
These demands include filling vacant posts, creating more employment opportunities, increasing MNREGA work and salary increase. The trade union demands that a scheme like MNREGA should be brought for urban areas as well. This strike was earlier scheduled for May, but it was postponed further due to national events.
