Why is it necessary to upgrade to BSNL 4G/5G SIM?
BSNL is now gradually providing 4G network across the country. Old 2G/3G SIM cards do not fully support 4G network. Internet speed, call connectivity and data services improve with new 4G SIM cards. In future, when BSNL starts 5G service, only SIMs with 4G upgrade will support it.
Things required to upgrade BSNL 4G/5G SIM
– Existing BSNL mobile number
– Aadhar card (for ID verification)
– A valid photo identity card
– Valid address proof
Step-by-step process to upgrade SIM online
Step 1: Visit BSNL website or app
First of all go to https://bsnl.co.in or download BSNL Selfcare app. Go to “SIM Upgrade” or “Order New SIM” section there.
Step 2: Enter mobile number
Enter the number you want to upgrade to 4G or 5G.
Step 3: Aadhaar verification
Enter Aadhaar number for KYC process on the website/app. Verify Aadhaar through OTP. If KYC is already complete, then this step can be skipped.
Step 4: Order a new SIM card
Fill in your name, address and location where the SIM card is to be delivered. BSNL is offering free SIM delivery in some areas.
Step 5: SIM card delivery and activation
The BSNL agent will deliver the SIM card to your address within 2 to 5 working days. You will have to fill a verification form and provide an identity proof. After this the new 4G/5G SIM card will be activated.
Offline method is also easy
If you are not comfortable with the online process, you can also get your SIM upgraded by visiting your nearest BSNL customer care center, BSNL store or any authorized retailer. You only have to provide your Aadhaar card and old SIM number there.
Keep these things in mind
After the new SIM is activated, the old SIM will stop working. Your mobile number will not change by upgrading the SIM. No fee is charged during SIM upgrade (maximum charge can be up to Rs 50). After getting the SIM, restart the mobile once.
