A senior Iranian official openly threatened US President Donald Trump, saying he could be killed near his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida and that he can no longer sunbathe on the beach.
"Trump has done something that he can no longer sunbathe in Mar-a-Lago," said Javad Larijani, a senior advisor to Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, told on live TV, according to Iran International. "As he lies there with his stomach to the sun, a small drone might hit him in the navel. It’s very simple."
The open threat comes days after Iran President Masoud Pezeshkian told US right-wing podcaster Tucker Carlson that Tehran can resolve its differences with the US through dialogue. He also blamed Israel for derailing the talks with the US.
Earlier, Ahde Khoun (Blood Pact), a crowd-funding platform, was set up to raise $100 million for "the retribution against those who mock and threaten the Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei." The campaign, which reportedly collected at least $40 million, pledged that anyone who brings "the enemies of God and those who threaten the life of Ali Khamenei to justice" will be awarded the bounty.
However, while speaking to Carlson, President Pezeshkian said “the fatwa of warfare" has nothing to do with the Iranian government or Khamenei.
On June 21, the US bombed three Iranian nuclear facilities at Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan more than a week after Israel launched a bombing campaign against Tehran on June 13. Israeli attacks killed at least 1,060 people, including senior military commanders and nuclear scientists.
