95,000 bags of subsidised farm grade urea arrives in Yamunanagar district

In a major relief for farmers, around 95,000 bags of subsidised agriculture grade urea has arrived in Yamunanagar district through the Railways in the last few days.

Out of these 95,000 bags, 50,000 bags will be distributed among farmers through Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies (PACS) and the remaining 45,000 bags through private dealers.

According to information, the plantation of paddy crop starts in the district in the third week of June every year. So, there is a huge demand for urea during this period.

Besides, there has been a sudden surge in urea demand for top dressing and healthy crop growth, due to sufficient and timely rain in June and July this year.

Dr Aditya Pratap Dabas, Deputy Director of Agriculture, Yamunanagar, said the PACS played a crucial role in ensuring the supply of fertiliser to farmers.

“In the last three months alone, nearly two lakh bags of urea have already been distributed through the PACS among farmers in the district,” said Dr Dabas.

The paddy crop is expected to be planted over 1.80 lakh acres in the district in the current season. As per available information, the district has 45,000 acres under sugarcane, 12,000 acres under maize and 8,000 acres under pulses and vegetables.

“At the current stage of growth of sugarcane, there is no major requirement of urea. Similarly, maize and other Kharif crops also require limited quantities of urea at present,” said Dr Dabas.

He said the Agriculture Department was closely monitoring fertiliser stocks and sales across all distribution points.

“Cooperative societies and private dealers have been directed to ensure transparent and fair distribution to strictly avoid hoarding or black marketing,” said Dr Dabas.

He said farmers were advised to purchase fertilisers as per crop requirements and avoid panic buying.

“The department reassures all stakeholders that adequate arrangements are in place to meet the fertiliser demand and support farmers during this critical period,” said Dr Dabas.
