No major impact of strike in Karnal district

On the call of different trade unions, employees of various departments on Wednesday protested in Karnal city to press their demands, including withdrawing labour code, not to privatise public sector undertakings, regularise all contractual and scheme-based workers, reinstate the old pension scheme and others. Similar protests were carried out at the block level by the employees. Meanwhile, the nation-wide strike had no major impact in the district.

In Karnal city, the employees under the banner of Sarv Karamchari Sangh, CITU and others took out a protest march from Sector 12 Fountain Park to the Mini-Secretariat.

Sushil Gujjar, district president, Sarav Karamchari Sangh, said the Union Government had proposed new labour codes, which were against the interest of the employees. “We demand the government not to implement these codes,” he said.

He along with other protesting employees also demanded the government to stop the privatisation of public sector undertakings and public services. “Privatisation of these public sector undertakings should be stopped for the welfare of the employees and public,” said Gujjar.

He also highlighted the issue that all outsourced and contractual workers, including Anganwari, ASHA and mid-day meal workers, should be regularised with permanent employment status and benefits.
