Bus driver arrested for raping Class 12 student in Sonepat
A private school bus driver has been arrested for allegedly raping a Class 12 student in Sonepat. The Sadar police registered a case and took the accused into custody. The police produced him before a court on Wednesday, which remanded him in two days of police custody.
The accused, identified as Chand Dahiya, a resident of Bhatgaon village, had been ferrying students of the private school where the victim studied. According to the police, the girl, a resident of a village under the Sadar police station’s jurisdiction, was targeted by the driver.
“The accused asked the victim to stay back in the bus after dropping other students around two months ago," said Inspector Dharambir Singh, SHO, Sadar police station. “He then took her to an isolated spot on his motorcycle, raped her and threatened to kill her if she revealed the crime."
The victim further alleged that Dahiya called her again on Sunday, repeating the assault under threats. After enduring the trauma, the girl confided in her family, who then approached the police.
“A case has been registered under the POCSO Act, and the accused has been arrested," Inspector Singh confirmed. “He was produced in court and remanded to police custody for further investigation."
Meanwhile, outrage spread as Zila Parishad member Sanjay Badwasnia, along with supporters, staged a protest outside the District Education Officer’s (DEO) office, demanding strict action.
“The school’s affiliation must be cancelled, and the management should be held accountable for failing student safety," Badwasnia said.
The police are investigating whether the school authorities neglected duty in ensuring student security.
