2 drug smugglers held with 2.84 kg charas in Jawali

The Nurpur district police have busted an inter-district drug smuggling racket by arresting two members of a racket active in Kullu and Kangra districts.

Following a tip-off, Jawali police in Nurpur police district set up a special naka at Batees Meel early this morning and stopped a silver Innova car (PB08-CC-4977). The police searched the vehicle and recovered 2.84-kilogram charas (hashish) from the possession of the car occupants, who were arrested and drug consignment seized.

As per police information, the drug smuggling accused have been identified as Vinay Kumar, son of Sagar, a resident of ward number 5, Nurpur town, and Kishori Lal, son of Tirath Ram of Seoli village of Banjar tehsil in Kullu district. The accused were bringing consignment of the drug from Kullu district.

SP Nurpur Ashok Ratan said the police had started investigation of this inter district drug racket and its network would be exposed soon. A case under sections 20 and 25 of the NDPS Act has been registered with Jawali police station.

The SP said in the special drive against drug trafficking in interstate Nurpur police district launched and so far, 41 cases under the NDPS Act have been registered this year so far and 789.69-gram heroin (chitta) and 14.178 kg charas seized from drug smugglers.

“During this period, the police have put 72 drug peddlers, including 11 women peddlers, behind bars after recovering contraband from their possession,” he added.
