Five Amarnath pilgrims injured in road mishap

Five Amarnath pilgrims on way to the holy cave shrine were injured on Wednesday when the vehicle they were travelling in met with an accident in Udhampur district of Jammu division.

The private car that was part of the Amarnath Yatra convoy crashed into a road divider near Narsoo Nallah.

While four of the pilgrims sustained minor injuries, the driver of the vehicle, identified as Shashikant a resident of Karnal in Haryana, suffered head injury. He was shifted to Government Medical College & Hospital, Udhampur, for treatment where doctors examined him. He is stated to be stable and out of danger.

The four passengers include Vikas Kumar, Raman Kamboj, Sumit Kamboj and Dhoni Kumar.

Chief Medical Officer Dr Anil Manhas said the pilgrims with minor injuries were immediately provided first aid but the driver was shifted to the GMC for treatment, adding he was conscious and recovering well.

There are 10 health centers established by the Health Department from Tikri to Chenani-Nashri tunnel in Udhampur where seven ambulances have been stationed for any emergency situation during the Amarnath Yatra. Meanwhile, slow movement of traffic was observed on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway till Wednesday afternoon due to breakdown of three heavy vehicles.
