Nahan schoolteacher held for ‘misconduct’ with girl student

A fresh case of alleged misconduct by a schoolteacher has rocked Sirmaur district—marking the third such incident involving a government school staffer within a month. In the latest episode, a physical education teacher in Nahan has been arrested for allegedly misbehaving with a Class VII girl during school hours.

The arrest was made by the Women Police Station, Nahan, after the student’s mother filed a complaint. As per the police, the alleged incident occurred on June 2 during a yoga session in the school. The teacher allegedly behaved inappropriately with the minor, prompting her mother to approach the police.

Following the complaint, an FIR was registered on July 7 under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The teacher was arrested on July 8 and presented in court the next day. He has been remanded to judicial custody till July 22.

Stating that a probe was underway, Sirmaur Superintendent of Police Nishchint Singh Negi said strict legal action was being pursued under the provisions of law.

This is the third such case reported in Sirmaur in recent weeks, sparking concern over the safety of students in government-run schools.

On June 22, a TGT Mathematics teacher at a government school in the Rajgarh area of the district was arrested after 24 girl students accused him of inappropriate behaviour. He was booked under Section 75 of BNS and Section 10 of the POCSO Act.

In another case at a government school in the Sarsu area of the district, six girl students accused a language teacher of inappropriate physical contact. The matter, initially reported in May, led to police action in late June, and a case was filed under the POCSO Act.
