Bengaluru: Man Detained For Secretly Filming Women In Public Spaces, Sharing 'Inappropriate' Videos Online Without Consent

Bengaluru: A 26-year-old man accused of operating an Instagram account that uploaded non-consensual videos of women walking in Bengaluru’s public spaces has been detained by police. The arrest comes after a viral Instagram post by a young woman who alleged she had been secretly filmed and subjected to harassment online.

The woman had flagged the issue in her post, alleging that she was secretly filmed on Church Street and despite reporting the account and requesting the video to be taken down, no action was taken. She added that since the reel was posted on Instagram, she has been receiving vulgar messages on her account.

“Just because my account is public doesn’t mean I consent to be filmed publicly. That is not how consent works,” the woman wrote in an Instagram post, tagging Bengaluru City Police and Cyber Crime CID.

Instagram Account With Over 50 Non-Consensual Reels

The accused, identified as Gurdeep Singh, a hotel management graduate who is currently unemployed, was picked up from his residence in KR Puram, where he lives with his brother. According to police, the case was taken up suo motu after the woman’s post gained traction on social media. Singh is now in police custody.

The account in question, named @indianwalk1m with the display name IndianWalk, has uploaded over 57 such reels as of June 10. The videos are primarily shot in central areas such as MG Road, Brigade Road, Church Street, UB City, and parts of Koramangala.

Many of the clips focus closely on women’s bodies as they walk, clearly taken without their consent. Several women can be seen looking startled or confused when they realise a camera is pointed at them.

In its bio, the page claims to be “capturing the GOLDEN TIME,” and in an Instagram story, it defended its content by stating that the videos were taken in public spaces “for entertainment purposes”. The account operator added, “I have many consent I share openly with you all,” although the videos suggest otherwise.

The same content is also being cross-posted on a YouTube channel with over 10,500 subscribers.

Pattern of Voyeurism Raises Alarm in Bengaluru

This latest incident comes just weeks after the arrest of 27-year-old Digant, who operated another Instagram page, @metro_chicks, featuring voyeuristic videos of women on Namma Metro.

Following public outrage, police filed a suo motu FIR under Section 67 of the IT Act and Section 78(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Digant had filmed women during his daily commute, and police confirmed he had no prior criminal record.
