Bengaluru: Man secretly films young women on streets, posts videos on Instagram, arrested

A 26-year-old man, who allegedly shot videos of young women walking in public places in Bengaluru and shared them on Instagram without their consent, landed in police custody.

Gurdeep Singh, a hotel management graduate, was arrested following a woman’s Instagram post that went viral, sparking off an outrage.

Gurdeep was taken into custody from his residence in KR Puram, where he was residing with his brother. The cops are now likely to seek Meta’s intervention to remove the account permanently.

The Instagram account @indianwalk1m, allegedly operated by Gurdeep, had posted several video clips featuring women walking in the city, primarily at Church Street—a popular commercial area in central Bengaluru.

The videos, which appeared to have been shot without the knowledge of the women, triggered an outrage after a young girl, who was also allegedly filmed by the accused, took to Instagram to express her concerns.

The girl claimed that the Instagram page refused to take down her video, despite repeated requests, and that she has been getting vulgar messages due to the reel.

"This person walks around Church Street pretending to film the 'chaos' - but in reality, all they do is follow women and record them without their consent. It happened to me. And I'm sure many others have no idea they've been filmed too,” she said.

“That is not how consent works. And this is not how you earn views or build engagement on Instagram. I genuinely hope this person gets caught,” read her post in which she also tagged Bengaluru Police and Cyber Crime department.

“Please help me get this taken down. I am not able to mention or tag the account since I've reported the account but the account's username is in the video," she said.
