Mumbai News: Woman Turns Heroine After Sheltering 3-Year-Old Missing Govandi Boy Found In Rain; Police Crack Kidnapping Case In 12 Hours
Mumbai: The Mumbai Crime Branch Unit 6 successfully traced and rescued a 3-year-old boy who was allegedly kidnapped from his residence in Govandi, within 12 hours of the incident. The child was reunited with his family late on Tuesday night.
In a heartwarming act of compassion and swift police action, a 3-year-old boy who went missing from Mumbai’s Shivaji Nagar area was safely rescued within 12 hours. While the police worked tirelessly to trace the child, a kind-hearted woman became the unsung hero by sheltering the child through the night and alerting the authorities the following morning.
The incident occurred on July 8, 2025, when Shabbo Afzar Hashmi, the boy’s mother, reported to the Shivajinagar Police Station at around 10:26 PM that her son had gone missing. According to the complaint, the child had been sleeping at home with his aunt between 12 PM and 2 PM when he mysteriously vanished.
Recognizing the gravity of the situation, Senior Inspector Bharat Ghone mobilized a team led by API Nagesh Chikhane, PSI Sandeep Rahane, WPSI Kalpana Mashere, and other officers.
The team reviewed footage from over 30 CCTV cameras in the vicinity and conducted a door-to-door search operation in nearby slums. The boy’s photo was circulated widely via local social media groups with help from journalists and community leaders.
Later that night, around 11 PM, a woman found the child alone and drenched in rain on Road No. 4 in Shivajinagar. Despite asking around, she couldn’t locate the boy’s guardians. Concerned for his well-being, she took him home, gave him dry clothes, food, and cared for him overnight.
The following morning, as she watched the news, she saw a report about the missing child and immediately contacted the police using the number displayed on the screen.
Acting promptly, the police team reached her residence, confirmed the child’s identity, and safely brought him to Shivajinagar Police Station. The boy was later reunited with his relieved family.
Police praised the woman’s timely and humane action, calling her a true hero in preventing what could have been a tragic incident. The Shivajinagar police credited coordinated fieldwork, community support, and swift action for solving the case in record time.
