Pakistan Turkey relations: In a significant development after the recent India-Pakistan conflict where Turkey helped Pakistan attack innocent civilians of India, Pakistan and Turkey agreed to enhance their cooperation in various fields including defence, trade, energy and infrastructure in a deal signed on July 8, 2025. With the large goal of taking bilateral trade between the two countries to US $ 5 billion (approximately Rs 41,750 crore), the two countries have agreed to support each other on various fronts. What have Turkey and Pakistan agreed on?

As per the agreement signed after the talks between Turkey’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Defence Minister Yasir Guler with Pakistan Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, both countries stressed on further strengthen their cooperation to promote peace and stability in the entire region.

“Pakistan would like to benefit from Turkey’s expertise and experience in this ( defence ) sector . He said that the two countries will further strengthen their cooperation to promote peace and stability in the entire region . Describing Turkey as a reliable friend and trusted brother. We are actively involved in various activities including counter – terrorism”, Dar has said.

Turkey, Pakistan to establish special economic zone?

“We are making efforts to establish a special economic zone ( SEZ ) dedicated to Turkish entrepreneurs in Karachi”, Dar added on the Pakistan-Turkey relationship.

PM Modi visits Turkey’s enemy country

In a significant ‘anti-Turkey’ step from India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently visited the eastern Mediterranean island of Cyprus recently. The first by an Indian Prime Minister in 23 years, the trip is being viewed in Nicosia as a diplomatic signal to Turkey, which has occupied one-third of the island since 1974 and had backed Pakistan during Operation Sindoor last month.

Notably, PM Modi visited Cyprus at the invitation of President Nicos Christodoulides and was accompanied by a large delegation of around 100 officials. Readers should note that despite historical ties between the two countries, visits by Indian Prime Ministers have been rare to the country.
